The AI&G Announces Call for Entry for 2009 Abstract Fine Art Exhibition

The Art Institute and Gallery has announced an artist Call for Entry for the 2009 Abstract Fine Art Exhibition.

The exhibition runs July 17-August 15th. Dates to drop off artworks are Friday July 10th from 11-3 pm or Monday July 13 from 10-4 pm. The exhibition is open to all abstract artists with work done in all media - 2D and 3D. Up to 3 artworks may be entered and at least one must be available for sale. Entry fees for this exhibition are $15.00 per entry or $10.00 per entry for college students. Further details and specifications are included in the Call for Entry.

The judge for this exhibition is Deborah Rolig, accomplished abstract artist from Snow Hill, MD. Deborah holds a degree in Fine Arts with a major in painting and drawing from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Daughter of a well-known regional artist, Deborah combined her early family training and her formal education to create her own unique style. Her career began in the 1970's painting murals and working as Artist-In-Residence in Prince George's County. Since then, her work has been highly sought and is represented by several galleries on the Eastern Shore.

This exhibition is dedicated in memory of long-time artist member of the AI&G, Thomas S. George, Jr. An architect with George, Miles and Buhr in Salisbury, Tom gave much to his community through many organizations. He was a member emeritus of the American Institute of Architecture, served as President of the Salisbury Junior Chamber of Commerce, chair of the Ward Foundation and of the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art also serving as a docent. He was a member of the Art Institute and Gallery and the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, the Paint and Powder Club, the Sons of the American Revolution and the 1812 Society and a voice in church choirs and glee clubs. A passion of Tom's was Abstract Art. Tom passed away in early May and the AI&G is honored to dedicate the 2009 Abstract Fine Art Exhibition to the Memory of Thomas S. George. Tom will be missed.

The Opening Reception, a Salisbury Art & Entertainment District 3rd Friday event, will be held Friday, July 17 from 5-7 pm. The public is cordially invited join in for one of the AI&G's most exciting shows each year. The AI&G is located at 212 W. Main St. Suite 101 (Gallery Building Camden St. entrance) in downtown Salisbury.
