ART INSTITUTE AND GALLERY FALL 2009 CLASSES

Here is a list of classes with short descriptions being offered October - December, 2009.

ADULT CLASSES

ARTIST TRADING CARDS

INSTRUCTOR: Barbara Israel

DAY: Saturday

DATES: October 24

TIME: 1:30 - 4:30 pm

COST: $30.00 (10 % discount for AI&G members)

AGE OF STUDENTS: 16 - To adult

DESCRIPTION OF CLASS: This workshop will introduce students to the world of Artist Trading Cards, or ATCs - "little canvases of creativity". These delightful art pieces, just 2? by 3? inches in size are created from a variety of media. Barbara Israel will teach imaginative ways to express your artistic style in miniature form. The techniques that are taught can be used to

make greeting cards, in scrapbooking, creative book making and other paper craft projects. Students will go home with at least 3 completed works of art.

SUPPLIES: scissors, glue stick, decorative papers

POTTERY - WHEEL THROWING AND HAND BUILDING

INSTRUCTOR: Erik Hertz potter

DAY:Monday

DATE: Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Dec. 7, 2009

TIME: 7:00 - 9:00pm

COST: $155 per 6 week class (includes $20 materials fee)

AGE: adults

DESCRIPTION: This class is open to students of all ability levels. In hand building, students will be introduced to techniques of working with clay. These disciplines will be taught and applied to projects involving pinch, coil and slab techniques. Students will also learn about glazing and firing pieces. Intermediate students will move on to more intricate projects.


OIL PAINTING WITH MYRNA MCGRATH

INSTRUCTOR: Myrna McGrath

DAYS: Wednesdays

DATES: Nov. 18, 25, Dec. 2, 9

TIME: 10:00 - 12:00pm

COST: $80.00

AGE OF STUDENTS: 16-Adult

DESCRIPTION: Students will explore color mixing, work on composition and concept. Water mixable oil paints are preferred - yes, they wash with soap and water. Only low odor turpentine is used with regular oil paints. There will be enough supplies provided to get started on the first class. If weather permits we may try painting outdoors.

CHILDREN'S CLASSES

AFTER SCHOOL CRAFTS FOR KIDS

INSTRUCTOR: Diana Mosteller

DAYS: Thursday

DATES: Session 2: Oct. 22, 29, Nov. 5, 12, 19

Session 3: Dec 3, 10, 17, Jan. 7, 14

TIME: 4:00 - 6:00 pm

COST: $160 per student, includes $20 supply fee (10 % discount for AI&G members)

AGE OF STUDENTS: 6 to 12 years

DESCRIPTION OF CLASS: During this 5-week span, students will be making different crafts each week. Crafts include paper cutouts, fun frames, painting projects, tissue projects, and plaster sculptures. With these projects, the students will have the opportunity to create a multitude of projects that will reflect their creativity.

CHILDREN'S POTTERY (hand building and throwing on the potters wheel)

INSTRUCTOR: Erik Hertz, potter
