Captains blank Shorebirds 3-0 in Game One
SALISBURY, MD – Coming off their longest road trip of the season, the Shorebirds were shutout in their return home as the Lake County Captains took game one of the series 3-0.
The Shorebirds managed just two hits, their lowest total of the season. The Shorebirds were shutout for just the second time at Arthur Perdue Stadium. The only other shutout of the 'Birds in Salisbury was also accomplised by the Captains on April 16th, the home opener.
Shorebirds starter Nathan Moreau and Captains starter T.J. House were fully engaged in a pitchers duel for the first five innings before Lake County cracked the scoreboard in the sixth. Donnie Webb led off with a double to right field. Adam Abraham then skied out to deep center field, allowing Webb to tag to third. With Abner Abreu at the plate, Moreau issued a wild pitch, which scored Webb to give the Captains a 1-0 lead.
In the eighth, the Captains extended their advantage to 3-0. With one out, Donnie Webb connected on a screaming line drive homer over the right field wall. One batter later, Abner Abreu hit a towering homer inside the left field foul pole to build a 3-0 lead.
T.J. House dominated the Shorebirds in seven brilliant innings. He allowed just two hits, while holding the Shorebirds without a run. Mike McGuire earned the save in two flawless innings of relief.
Nathan Moreau was saddled with the loss in his best outing of the season. In 6.2 innings, he scattered five hits and just one run. He also struck out a season high eight batters.
The Shorebirds will face the Captains in the series finale on Thursday at 7:05 PM.
