Eastern Shore corridor for broadband, power sought
SALISBURY, MD – (AP) The Maryland Broadband Cooperative and Pepco will use a below-seabed corridor to improve Internet service and electricity supply on the Eastern Shore.
Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway project manager Vince Maione says officials want one utility corridor across the Chesapeake Bay to provide both services, not just the proposed 230-mile high voltage power transmission line.
Currently, the Maryland Broadband Cooperative uses the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for fiber optic lines that bring broadband service to the Eastern Shore.
Cooperative CEO Patrick Mitchell says another crossing will improve residential and commercial Internet service in rural areas on the Eastern Shore.
