Brief Synopsis:
In the previous edition of this program, we heard from two representatives on opposite sides of a debate about the impact the poultry industry is having on the Chesapeake Bay's waters. Specifically at issue is whether or not nutrient run-off from chicken manure is harming the bay.
At the end of Part One, we heard from the environmental positions of Rick Dove of the Waterkeeper Alliance, and also from Diane Halverson, a Farm Animal Advisor, with the Animal Welfare Institute. That interview was preceded by a taped discussion with Mr. Bill Satterfield, Executive Director of Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc.
Both interviews were recorded on November 1, 2007 at the first-of-its-kind Eastern Shore Poultry Summit. The summit was hosted by the Waterkeeper Alliance, and it was held at the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury.
In this program, which is Part Two, we'll continue the rest of my discussion with Mr. Rick Dove, again of the Waterkeeper Alliance, and Ms. Diane Halverson. And later, we'll also hear the perspective of an Eastern Shore poultry farmer.
