Brief Synopsis:

In the previous program, we discussed some of the reasons that a number of newspapers across the country have had to either significantly downsize their operations, declare bankruptcy, or in some of the more dire circumstances - completely go out of business.

As we learned in Part One, newspapers across the country have had to deal with competing Internet sites - which are siphoning off readership that would have traditionally gone to newspapers. And it's happening at the worst possible time for the newspaper industry, with a deepening recession causing dramatic declines in advertising revenue.

In this program, we're going to pick up on the rest of my discussion, recorded on April 10, 2009, with Gregg Bassett, the Executive Editor of the Salisbury-based Daily Times.

We'll continue to talk about the plight of the newspaper industry, how it's affecting The Daily Times in particular, and what the future may have in store for the industry as a whole.
