Legislators want bigger increase in state police force

DOVER, Del. (AP) - – State lawmakers say Governor Ruth Ann
Minner's proposal to add eight troopers to the state police force
doesn't go far enough.
They want to see the force get even bigger. House Majority
Leader Wayne Smith says adding eight troopers won't do much to
enhance public safety. He says 80 would be a better number.
Minner says she also prefers a larger increase but says the
state can't afford it.
There are currently 647 sworn troopers in Delaware.
