NASA ready for blastoff from Va's Eastern Shore
ATLANTIC, VA – (AP) Virginia's Eastern Shore is set to begin the countdown anew for a rocket launch.
NASA is preparing for a launch Tuesday night of a Minotaur I rocket from its Wallops Flight Facility in Atlantic. The launch was originally set for May 5 but the weather has not cooperated.
Scientists say the rocket will deliver into orbit an 880-pound Air Force TacSet-3 satellite intended to give U.S. troops the upper hand in combat situations.
The satellite is designed to deliver battle imagery to U.S. troop commanders with much greater speed and detail. If successful, the technology could be ready for battlefield use in a year or two.
