OC mulls allowing fraternal groups to have slots

OCEAN CITY, MD – (AP) Ocean City Town Council members are getting behind a proposal to allow slot machines at fraternal organizations.

Legislation pending in the state Senate would allow Worcester County groups such as the Elks and the American Legion to use slots to raise money.

Worcester is currently the only Eastern Shore county that does not allow fraternal organizations to operate slots.

One council member, Nancy Howard, said she would not support the bill. Mayor Rick Meehan added that he hoped other forms of fundraising wouldn't disappear because of slot machines.
