Panel to meet today to discuss test violations

UNDATED (AP) - – State officials plan to meet today to review
three investigations into alleged violations of the rules for
giving the state's standardized tests.
There have been three publicized violations so far this year, in
Carroll, Charles and Kent counties. State education officials
aren't saying if there are others.
The assistant state superintendent in charge of the Maryland
School Assessment, Gary Heath, tells The (Baltimore) Sun the
incidents are regrettable, but isolated. He says a test security
committee will meet today to review the cases and consider possible
penalties.
Heath says his office is looking at ways to make it harder to
cheat on exams and is looking at possible changes in training
materials for test proctors.
