Smith bill would scrap DSTP
DOVER, Del. (AP) - – A leading Republican in the General Assembly
says the state should scrap its standardized tests.
House Majority Leader Wayne Smith is sponsoring a bill that
would replace the Delaware Student Testing Program with a
nationally recognized test. He says the state's test is unproven,
costly to produce and takes too long to score.
But state Education Secretary Valerie Woodruff says getting rid
of the state tests is inappropriate.
The tests that Smith favors are already being tested in several
Delaware school districts and he says it offers more useful data
than the Delaware tests.
