White marlin tournament begins in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, MD – (AP) The annual White Marlin Open is under way in Ocean City.

Boats were allowed to head out at 3:30 a.m. Monday for the start of the five-day competition.

It's billed as the world's largest billfish tournament with 3 million dollars in prize money at stake. The fisherman who lands the biggest white marlin will earn 1 million dollars.

This is the 35th year for the tournament.

Hundreds of anglers are competing and thousands of spectators are expected to visit Harbor Island Marina each afternoon for the daily weigh-ins.
