Seven celebrities set for UMES Gala

Seven Hollywood stars have signed-on to appear March 3 at the 2012 University of Maryland Eastern Shore Gala, “Lights, Camera, Action!.”

The third year for a celebrity presence, the 2012 guests include: S. Epatha Merkerson, Larry King, Billy Davis Jr., and Marilyn McCoo, Melanie Griffith, Tippi Hedren and Jaclyn Smith.

“What an honor that these talented and community conscious celebrities are willing to give of their time to benefit our deserving students,” Dr. Veronique Diriker, Gala coordinator, said.  “I’m sure our guests will delight in sharing the evening with them.”

"Light Me Up" candle-dipping workshop at Dover, Del.'s John Dickinson Plantation on Nov. 19, 2011

"Light Me Up", an illuminating workshop on traditional candle-dipping will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., at the John Dickinson Plantation located at 340 Kitts Hummock Rd. in Dover, DE 19901.

(DOVER, Del.?Oct. 19, 2011) – Conducted by historic-site interpreter Vertie Lee, the workshop will explore candle-dipping techniques and lighting devices that would have been used during the 18th century when John Dickinson was in residence at the plantation. Visitors will have an opportunity to dip their own candles which can then be taken home.
