Delaware State Fair announces this year's performers

HARRINGTON, Del. (AP) — New Kids On The Block and Bryan Adams are among the acts scheduled to perform at this summer's Delaware State Fair.

Organizers announced the list of performers coming to this year's fair on Tuesday.

The other acts include Josh Turner with guests Dustin Lynch and Craig Wayne Boyd and Little Big Town with guests David Nail and Ashley Monroe. The state fair announced late last year that Casting Crowns would perform.

The Delaware State Fair runs from July 23 through Aug. 1.

McCartney to headline Firefly music festival in Delaware

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Organizers of the Delaware's Firefly Music Festival say former Beatle Paul McCartney will headline this year's event.

Wednesday's announcement comes a week after festival organizers announced a partial lineup led by the Kings of Leon and The Killers.

But last week's lineup did not include McCartney, despite weeks of rumors that he would be the top draw. Organizers said at the time that they were still waiting on final approval for the third headline act.

Wynton Marsalis brings new 'Blues Symphony' to Strathmore

WASHINGTON (AP) — Wynton Marsalis is unveiling one of his newest musical compositions in the Washington area, featuring the blues with a full symphony orchestra.

Marsalis will debut his "Blues Symphony" Wednesday night at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland. The performance with a 100-piece symphony is the culmination of Marsalis' residency with the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, organized by Washington Performing Arts.

Baltimore airport showcases local music with weekly events

BALTIMORE (AP) — Some Baltimore-area rock bands hope to put their music on a higher plane by performing at the airport.

Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and listener-sponsored Towson radio station WTMD are promoting a weekly series of concerts in the terminal, near baggage claim 5.

The first show, featuring The Herd of Main Street, was held Friday. Concerts are scheduled the last Friday of each month through May.

Airport officials say they also plan to present recorded music from local artists in other parts of the terminal.

Arts groups planning 3-year orchestra festival in Washington

WASHINGTON (AP) — A three-year orchestra festival is in the works for Washington, inspired by a similar festival at Carnegie Hall over the past four years.

The Kennedy Center is organizing "Shift: A Festival of American Orchestras" with Washington Performing Arts to begin in 2017. Organizers are announcing Tuesday they have received $900,000 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as seed funding for the approximately $2 million initiative.
