A 25-year-old San Mateo man who died after crashing his motorcycle into a streetlight pole has been identified as Cooper Alexander Lahoud, according to police.
Lahoud was riding eastbound on Franklin Parkway in San Mateo on Monday evening when the fatal crash occurred. Officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m., the San Mateo Police Department said Tuesday.
When officers arrived, they found Lahoud lying in the roadway with major injuries. The motorcycle had crashed, and the impact had severed a city light pole.
“Unfortunately, the rider succumbed to his injuries,” the department said in a statement.
Police Say Speed May Have Contributed to the Crash

Investigators determined that no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Police also confirmed that Lahoud was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
According to the department’s preliminary investigation, speed was likely a contributing factor in the crash.
Police said the evidence indicated that Lahoud lost control of the motorcycle while traveling eastbound on Franklin Parkway. He then left the roadway and collided with the light pole.
The investigation remains focused on the circumstances surrounding the collision. Police have not provided additional details about what may have caused Lahoud to lose control.
The department also extended its condolences to Lahoud’s loved ones following his death.
“Our condolences go out to his family and friends,” the San Mateo Police Department said.
Investigation Into the Fatal Motorcycle Crash
The crash involved a single motorcyclist, according to police. Investigators have not identified any other vehicles as being involved in the incident.
The department’s findings about speed are preliminary, and the available information does not establish whether other factors contributed to the collision.
The fatal crash serves as a reminder of the serious risks motorcyclists face when they lose control of their vehicles, particularly when they leave the roadway and strike fixed objects.
Further details about the investigation may be released by authorities as they become available.
